Whatever reason you have for giving up or cutting down on alcohol, it can sometimes feel like you’re on your sober journey alone. However, more and more celebs are coming forward to talk about their sobriety, making it easier to be open about your experience and kiss goodbye to booze forever.
Cara Delevingne
One star who has recently spoken publicly about her experience with alcohol is Cara Delevingne.
The model-cum-actress has been sober for a few months now, with her sobriety beginning not long after she was pictured looking inebriated following her 30th birthday. This made her reflect on her lifestyle and she soon entered rehab and embarked on a 12-step program to ditch her addiction.
In an interview with Vogue, she spoke candidly about her life-long history of drinking, waking up hungover for the first time at just seven years old after she’d gone round “nailing glasses of champagne” at a family wedding.
Since entering rehab in September, she proudly claims she has been sober and most recently enjoyed an alcohol-free night at the Oscars.
Miley Cyrus
Another young celebrity who’d rather have an orange juice than a vodka coke is Miley Cyrus.
The 30-year-old songstress told Rolling Stone in 2020 she decided to get sober to avoid joining the ‘27 club’.
“I said, ‘I got to pull my[self] together before I’m 27, because 27 is the time you cross over that threshold into living or dying a legend. I didn’t want to not make it through being 27. I didn’t want to join that club’,” she told the magazine.
She admitted to falling off the wagon during the pandemic, but has kicked booze once more.
Anne Hathaway
The Princess Diaries and Les Miserables star Anne Hathaway chose to give up alcohol when she had her first child seven years ago.
Speaking to Lorraine, the actress revealed her decision to be sober, saying she wants to be fully present with him during the 18 years he is at home.
Blake Lively
Hollywood seems to be full of sober stars, as Blake Lively also confidently revealed she doesn’t drink.
Speaking with Allure magazine way back in 2012, the actress said: “I don’t drink. I’ve never had a drug.”
While lots of celebrities do not touch booze due to addiction problems, Blake admitted she simply doesn’t enjoy it.
“It’s not like I decided on these strict lifestyle choices and I’m enforcing them. It’s just something that I genuinely don’t have a desire for,” the 35-year-old stated.
Daniel Radcliffe
It’s not just females who are living a life of sobriety though, as Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe reveals he no longer drinks too.
Lots of child celebrities lose themselves in a world of addiction, but he managed to control his drinking by giving it up.
The 33-year-old, who started his career at the tender age of 12, told The Telegraph in 2016: “I can’t tell you what kind of drunk I am because I don’t remember what kind of drunk I am.”
He admitted he would not have quit booze if he hadn’t felt he needed to.
Something that has made it easier for young people to live a sober life these days is the huge range of non-alcoholic beer, spirits and wine available. This means they can still have a social life without getting inebriated.
